The Division Beta has, surprisingly, sold me on the concept Ubisoft has lined up for next month with so little content. I still think some areas aren’t as great as they could be, but The Dark Zone has me completely sold on a gamified representation of human nature. It’s exciting to dynamically join groups hunting for rogue agents, or find yourself in the shoes of the fleeing traitor.
It’s not so fun when either one of those parties is simply more powerful than the game should allow – which is happening a lot on PC.
According to many, many complaints on Reddit, it seems Division players on PC have found that player stats (such as weapon damage, ammo counts and more) are all saved on the client side of the game. That means there’s a file not so deep in your PC with all this information being stored and edited by the game as you play, which is then sent to the server to reflect on another player’s game when you decide to kill them. It does, however, seem as though the server doesn’t actually check to make sure these numbers haven’t been altered.
That means The Dark Zone on PC currently has quite a few players running around with infinite ammo clips, buffed damage outputs and a ridiculous amount of health, making the entire social experiment an exercise in frustration. With only month to go, many on social platforms are wondering if this could end up being the straw that breaks the game’s release – so much so that Community Developer Hamish Bode had to speak up.

It’s definitely something The Division simply cannot release with, otherwise the Dark Zone play on PC will be completely ruined. And that’s enough to make me want to stay away.
